# Purpose, commitments and grievance channel

Why EcoBaterías exists, who it deals with, how it receives and answers a complaint, and the commitments it makes to people and the environment.

EcoBaterías exists to return end-of-life lithium batteries and solar panels in Chile to productive use, safely and with full traceability: it first tests, repairs and reuses them, and only at the end manages their recycling. This page publishes that purpose, our stakeholders, the procedure to file a complaint and our commitments on responsible communication, human rights, diversity and inclusion, and lobbying.

## Purpose

To return end-of-life lithium batteries and solar panels in Chile to productive use, safely and with full traceability: we first test, repair and reuse them, and only when they can no longer be used do we manage their recycling, so that their materials are recovered and they do not end up as waste.

### The impact we seek

- **Less hazardous waste in final disposal:** batteries and panels that leave service are reused or valorized instead of landfilled.
- **Longer service life:** extending the life of batteries and panels through testing, repair and second life before recycling.
- **Recovered materials:** battery and panel materials return to the economy through authorized receiving facilities.
- **Safety:** this waste is handled without risk to people, communities or the environment, with licensed carriers and receiving facilities and full documentary traceability.

### How it is built into the business

The purpose describes our business model. Each service line is a step of the rule “test first, recycle last”:

How each service line contributes to the purpose

| Service line | Contribution |
|---|---|
| [Battery testing](https://ecobaterias.org/en/diagnostico-baterias-litio.html) and [panel testing](https://ecobaterias.org/en/solar-panel-testing.html) | Determines whether a unit can be used again before it is treated as waste. |
| [Repair](https://ecobaterias.org/en/lithium-battery-repair.html) and [refurbishment](https://ecobaterias.org/en/lithium-battery-refurbishment.html) | Recovers units that still have use value. |
| [Second life](https://ecobaterias.org/en/second-life-batteries.html) | Moves battery modules and panels into less demanding uses. |
| [Recycling management](https://ecobaterias.org/en/lithium-battery-recycling-service.html) | Ensures an authorized, traceable destination for what can no longer be reused. |

The choice between reuse, repair and recycling follows our sorting protocol, based on measurements of each unit. The amendment to the articles of association agreed by the shareholders on October 6, 2026 adds to the corporate purpose that the company will seek to create a positive impact for the community, the people linked to it and the environment.

### How we will measure progress

We measure our purpose with four indicators. Our targets for 2027 are:

- Receive **100 t** of batteries and panels in the year, reported by type.
- **25%** of the weight received is reused, repaired or given a second life.
- **100%** of batches have complete documentary traceability (dispatch notes, declarations and certificates).
- **Zero** lost-time safety incidents in battery handling.

Every December, the directors review progress on these indicators at the annual impact review.

## Our stakeholders

These are the groups affected by our decisions and the channel we use to engage with each one. What we hear through these channels and through the [grievance channel](https://ecobaterias.org/en/impact.html#grievance-channel) is presented every year at the directors’ annual impact review, in December.

EcoBaterías stakeholders and the engagement channel for each

| Group | Who they are | Engagement channel |
|---|---|---|
| Workers | The EcoBaterías team | Monthly team meeting with minutes; annual anonymous survey; grievance channel |
| Suppliers | Licensed waste carriers and receiving facilities; suppliers of inputs, equipment and services | Assessment before contracting; annual conversation with the main ones; grievance channel |
| Clients | Companies and people with end-of-life batteries and panels: solar plants, storage operators, electric fleets | Survey after each service; grievance channel |
| Investors and partners | Empresa de Servicios Solares SpA and EcoProjects SpA, each holding 50% of the shares; future investors | Annual shareholders’ meeting; annual impact report |
| Community of Linares and wherever we operate | Neighbours of the head office in Linares and of future facilities | Information meeting with neighbours before operations start at each new facility; grievance channel |
| Environment | Represented by the company | Annual measurement of waste, energy and water; climate action plan; environmental officer: Carlos Jofré Oñate |

Material decisions (new services, facility locations, main suppliers, investments) are recorded in minutes, stating which groups are affected and how their interests were considered.

## Responsible communication principles

They apply to the website, social media, sales and investor presentations, proposals, press and any public communication by EcoBaterías.

### 1. Accurate, verifiable claims based on reliable data

- Every figure carries its source and date. We distinguish what is measured, estimated and projected.
- We present a capability as available only if it is operating; what is under review we say is under review.
- We do not claim third parties’ facilities, permits, results or clients as ours, including those of partners, clients and suppliers. When a capability comes from a partner, we say so.
- We do not use absolute expressions (“zero waste”, “100% recycled”, “carbon neutral”, “no impact”) without evidence to back them.

### 2. Transparency about positive and negative impacts

- Alongside the benefits, we report the risks and limits of our activity, such as handling hazardous waste and the fire risk of batteries.
- If we find an error in a published communication, we correct it and, if it was material, we report the correction.

### 3. Ethical guidelines for sensitive channels and practices

- We do not use seals, certifications or memberships we do not hold.
- Testimonials and cases are real and are published with the consent of whoever gives them.
- Comparisons with other companies are based on verifiable facts.
- We respect privacy and personal data in campaigns and contact databases.

To apply them, a second person checks before publication that every claim is backed, we keep a register of the sources of our figures and the whole team receives these principles.

## Human rights commitment

EcoBaterías SpA commits to respecting human rights in its operations and in its relationships with workers, clients, suppliers and communities. This commitment expressly includes:

- The [United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights](https://www.ohchr.org/sites/default/files/documents/publications/guidingprinciplesbusinesshr_en.pdf) (2011).
- The International Bill of Human Rights: the [Universal Declaration of Human Rights](https://www.un.org/en/about-us/universal-declaration-of-human-rights) (1948), the [International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights](https://www.ohchr.org/en/instruments-mechanisms/instruments/international-covenant-civil-and-political-rights) and the [International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights](https://www.ohchr.org/en/instruments-mechanisms/instruments/international-covenant-economic-social-and-cultural-rights) (1966).
- The [ILO Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work](https://www.ilo.org/resource/conference-paper/ilo-1998-declaration-fundamental-principles-and-rights-work-and-its-follow) (1998, amended in 2022): freedom of association and collective bargaining, elimination of forced labour, abolition of child labour, elimination of discrimination in employment, and a safe and healthy working environment.

It applies to the company, to the people who work in it and to those who work for it. We expect suppliers, carriers and waste managers to respect the same principles, and we take this into account when hiring them.

Human rights risks we prioritise in our sector

| Risk | Who is affected | How we address it |
|---|---|---|
| Health and safety in battery handling: fire, electrical and chemical risk | Our team, carriers, clients | Handling procedures, training, protective equipment and licensed carriers |
| Working conditions in subcontracted transport and waste management | Suppliers’ workers | Supplier assessment before contracting |
| Child or forced labour in the mining of battery minerals | People in the global supply chain | Considering origin when buying new cells or equipment; preferring reuse and recycling |
| Health and quality of life of communities near our facilities | Neighbours | Permit compliance, grievance channel and dialogue with the community |

We deliver on it through due diligence proportionate to our size, starting with the most important purchases each year; a [grievance channel](https://ecobaterias.org/en/impact.html#grievance-channel) open to anyone, with protection against retaliation; remedying what we cause or contribute to; and reviewing this commitment every year, at the annual impact review in December.
